Foundation Helps Kick Off LibraryCon with Concert

The Library Center rocked during a two-day celebration of fandoms surrounding popular books, graphic novels and comics artists, their characters and superheroes. It was LibraryCon No. 5 at the Library Center.

On Friday, Aug. 16, Harry and the Potters performed their own brand of Wizard Rock to a crowd of about 150 people, ages preschool to 60. Billed as a pre-show for LibraryCon, the show drew a great crowd of Potter fans, all of whom whooped and hollered when asked if they planned to attend LibraryCon the following morning.

Nancee Dahms-Stinson, Youth Services Coordinator, said “Children danced, young adults bopped and jumped, and everyone was spellbound by the music.” The band used all of the stage, sometimes sitting, sometimes lying flat on their backs. “They truly love what they do,” Nancee said.

The band makes a practice of collecting library cards from all the libraries that host their concerts, so they were proud to display their new Springfield-Greene County Library District cards.

The Library Foundation sponsored the concert and LibraryCon. We appreciate donors who support youth programming, which aims to provide opportunities for families to learn, explore and play together.
