Retirement Plan or Life Insurance Policy

Designate the Library as the beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy and ensure that your lifetime of hard work will be used to inspire lifelong learning. There are no income or estate taxes on any retirement plan assets left directly to a nonprofit organization. You can complete a beneficiary form provided by the plan administrator without the assistance of an attorney.

Trusts

Create a charitable remainder trust that generates income for you and your family and a future source of income for the Library. Charitable gift annuities can be established with smaller amounts. When you specify the distribution of assets and charitable giving, you may lower taxes, fees and court costs.

Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds

Assets such as stocks, bonds, and mutual fund shares can be directly donated to the Library without paying capital gains tax on the appreciated value, as you would if you sold it first and then gave cash. Other assets such as real estate can provide a tax deduction.

We encourage you to talk to a tax professional about your options. A little planning will allow you to live the joy of knowing you’re leaving a Library Legacy.
